MK works because we are car friendly - but we need to fight to keep it that way. Our grid road system should enable cars to drive easily from point to point.
I am therefore delighted that we’ve secured a £25 million boost to local roads in Milton Keynes over the next decade. In 2021-22, MKCC received an extra £7.9 million for local roads maintenance, including £2.8 million for potholes alone.
However, the Labour and Lib Dems led Council need to get on with it, given since 2020, reported road defects, which includes potholes, have doubled.
I am also concerned about other anti-motorist policies too, the chaos of the A509 road closure due to their MK East plans have caused considerable traffic pressures, including around Willen and Middleton. The Labour led Council have also increased minimum parking fees in MK Centre as well as reduced electric car parking incentives, which is both anti-consumer and anti-business. And of course, the rapid growth of MK, with Labour wanting to cram in another 65,000 houses, will only cause further traffic jams, as well as MK Council withdrawing subsidies for many bus routes, and replacing them with its much-criticised MK Connect service, which with their smaller vehicles, can carry far less passengers.
I’ll keep campaigning to keep MK moving, we are a City designed for motorist, let’s keep it that way.
