The 2024 Local Election results show increasing support for the Conservatives in the wards contained in the Milton Keynes Central seat, defying national polls with a win against Labour in the crucial and highly populous Danesborough and Walton Ward.
Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Milton Keynes Central Johnny Luk was highly encouraged by the local elections results for Milton Keynes Council, with Labour failing to gain any additional seats against Conservatives in wards contained in the new Milton Keynes Central Constituency.
- In Labour’s top target ward Danesborough and Walton, which Labour won in 2023, they went heavily backwards and lost, with the Conservatives defending it comfortably, re-electing Cllr Victoria Hopkins. Conservative vote share went up over 10% with Labour down nearly 5%.
- Conservatives increased their vote share in five of the eight wards compared to 2023.
- The overall vote share in the eight wards suggests the Conservatives and Labour are within touching distance of each other, circa 32% vs 35%.
- Conservatives here are performing above this year’s local elections Average Equivalent Vote of 7% Conservative vs Labour gap and is also remarkably better than recent national polls.
Johnny says, “I am encouraged by our results in this year’s Local Elections. We are defying the national polls and increasing our level of support. In particular, I am delighted to defend our key ward, Danesborough and Walton.
This large ward had the highest number of people who voted in our constituency and the result was a decisive reversal of Labour’s progress. Comparing our performance to last year’s local elections, as well as to other areas, the evidence is clear, our campaign is working and Labour’s support has hit a ceiling.
Our focus now turns to the upcoming General Election, where it is a two-horse race between myself and the Labour candidate.
I will do all I can to earn the trust of our residents. I am the only candidate who both grew up and lives in Milton Keynes, who is pragmatic, moderate, inclusive and working my socks off to get more infrastructure before expansion, including securing funding for a £200 million Women’s and Children’s Hospital and opposing Labour's plan to cram 63,000 more houses in MK, which will wipe out our green spaces and overwhelm our local NHS."
